Prison …
homeless …
back to prison

Many ex-prisoners get stuck in the cycle of going from prison, to being homeless, to soon being back in prison. Gimme Shelter is a website that explains how this cycle happens and how it can be avoided if ex-prisoners find stable accommodation after release. Gimme Shelter was created by the Community Restorative Centre (CRC) to show accommodation service providers, community groups, drug and alcohol services, government agencies, etc. how to help ex-prisoners find accommodation.

The first three months is critical

The first three months following release poses a higher risk for ex-prisoners in terms of reoffending. If your service can help an ex-prisoner find accommodation in this critical period, their chances of breaking the ‘back to prison’ cycle will be greatly improved. On this website you can find lots of useful information including:

Facts about prisoners
Problems ex-prisoners face with accommodation
Accommodation options for ex-prisoners
Tips for working with ex-prisoners
Who to contact for further help
